Attempted attack against the Israeli embassy in Bangkok, Thailand

  • Unit 400 of the Quds Force tried to mount an attack in Bangkok that was apparently directed at the Israeli embassy.
  • The Force obtained weapons in Thailand, stationed Iranian operatives in the country, and even collected extensive operational intelligence.
  • The activity failed because a bomb exploded while it was being prepared for the attack in one of the squad's safe houses. Consequently, three operatives were detained in Thailand: Mohamad Khazei, Saeid Moradi, and Ali Akbar Norouzi Shaia.
  • A fourth operative, Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, escaped to Malaysia and was detained upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur.
  • In a sweep of the safe house, around half a dozen bombs intended for the attack were discovered. Some of them were activated by the operatives near the apartment when they were detained by Thai police.
